VM Assist Offers Innovative Video Security Monitoring

Bellingham, Washington – October 11, 2006: VM Assist, a long-time IBM Business Partner, is now offering state-of-the-art security monitoring computer and camera systems in addition to Mainframe and Linux sales and 24/7 support. The company is only one of seven companies in the United States that has been approved to offer new Internet-based digital surveillance technology for large systems from Datacom Systems, an IBM strategic partner, as well as Pelco, the industry leader.

Images from security cameras are accessed by computer and are saved directly into its hard drives for later viewing, analysis or printing. There is no videotape! Intelligent software can be implemented to recognize movement of items or numbers of people in a particular space, and alert the viewer immediately of any out of the ordinary activity. Automatically generated and tailored alerts can be sent to any cell phone, pager, or email address, including the police department.

Bob Kusche, President of VM Assist, says “The advantage of digital surveillance is the ability to efficiently store and analyze video data. It’s recorded at up to 30 frames per second and images can be retained for days, weeks, or months. Copies of an activity or a photo may be provided as evidence in court, since there is electronic proof it came directly from the security camera. The perpetrator is identifiable on the screen.”

”This technology would have been 10 times as expensive just a few years ago,” said Kusche. ”It’s now in reach of most businesses (especially if financed). It can be used for security and safety monitoring, or to improve customer service by directing staff to places they are needed.”

VM Assist is working closely with Security Solutions of Bellingham on these opportunities. “I have terrific respect for the advanced solutions and expertise that Security Solutions has already achieved in this industry and we are lucky to have them here in Bellingham”, says Bob Kusche. “We bring mainframe-based infrastructure and networking expertise to the plate, and Security Solutions demonstrates extraordinary understanding as well as a broad expertise with all scopes of electronic surveillance for systems both large and small.”

“We have a very synergistic relationship” echoes Tobey Vos of Security Solutions, “VM Assist knows their way around Enterprise-sized IP networks and large Data Centers from their 20+ years of IBM mainframe experience. We build on each other’s strengths, and are working very well together as we deliver these advanced surveillance solutions.”

Kusche plans to market the systems nationally to municipalities, medical facilities, and large retail stores, as well as to just about any facility with a need for 32 cameras or more. Large systems may be financed. VM Assist recently replaced shelves of VCRs with a system at the Slo Pitch Pub and Casino, and is currently working on a design to secure outdoor portions of the Fairhaven district and the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.

Kusche and his family moved VM Assist to Bellingham from San Francisco 10 years ago. A math/computer sciences graduate of UCLA, Kusche has been a life-long expert with advanced computing technologies, specifically on mainframes. He has worked over the years with such companies as Levi Strauss, Rubbermaid, Pepsi and the US Space Alliance on their Y2K Space Shuttle Readiness Plan.

“We love it here,” said Kusche. “It’s easy to locate a national business in Bellingham, do well, and still enjoy the lifestyle.”
